Who is Walt Disney & Mickey Mouse?
Walt Disney or Walter Disney is the creator of Disney World and Land. He was born December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois and died December 15, 1966 in Burbank, California due to lung cancer. Walter had an interest in art as a child, he would sell his sketches to his neighbors and friends. In high school, he focused on drawing and photography, and at night he attended the Academy of Fine Arts. He then picked up an interest in acting and performing, as well as story telling. In 1918, he joined the red-cross and went overseas. When he came back, he focused on career animation. Then, he moved to Hollywood and Mickey Mouse was born. It was in 1928 when Walter took a train ride with his wife and came up with the idea of creating a cartoon mouse. At first he wanted to name it Mortimer. When Lillian, his wife, didn't agree, he changed the name to Mickey. He worked on Mickey's appearance for awhile and then made his debut on November 18, 1928 on a cartoon called "Steamboat Willie". Mickey Mouse's first words were "hot dog!" The cartoon character immediately became a hit. The audience loved him. He has made a lot of changes through the years. One of the biggest changes the Disney character made was the addition of white gloves. Today, Mickey Mouse is normally dressed in red shorts with two buttons on the front, large yellow shoes, and his white gloves. He has a black nose, and large eyes. The only similarities he has to a real mouse are his large mouse ears, and his long, skinny tail. Other than those features, Mickey Mouse has his own unique look. Besides his looks, Mickey's character has changed, as well. When he was first introduced to Disney, Mickey would do nasty, mischievous things. However, today he is known for his innocent charm and sweet personality. He became so popular during Walter's career and won many medals, honors and awards. Before Walt Disney died, Mickey already had a girlfriend, Minnie, and a dog, Pluto. Not to mention all his other friends who are in his show "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" that made its debut on July 17, 1955. In 1966, when Walt passed away, his success grew bigger and bigger. Now, when you see the famous Mickey Mouse, you can remember the man behind his success.
"When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do. And one thing it takes to accomplish something is courage." -Walter Disney
